CAC FOC 2007: Redux

23 Jul 07 - DAY 1

Was told to meet at the bus interchange where bus 179 is. Sat there for like ten minutes before finding out that the whole OG was waiting at the control station of the MRT. Once I reached there everyone seems like really enjoying themselves playing icebreaker games. I just stood around for a few minutes before we set off to NTU.

After lunch and more icebreaker games, we were treated to the camp introductory video: ZEROES - a parody of the show HEROES, which I enjoyed very much.

The next programme is some high rope thingy (ok, I don't know what its called) at the chalet opposite Kah Hui's house. Yep, you heard me. OPPOSITE Kah Hui's house. I still can recall both of joking about who in their right minds will stay in those chalets.

Different OGs got different courses and we got the the course where you have to cross the whole thing by holding on to ropes with loops for your feet. According to the instructor, its rather rare that visitors are able to attempt the course.

Night falls and night games begins! Too bad we didn't get to play paratroopers cause somebody actually reported to the police. I spent the night at Kah Hui's house. Sure beats the hard floor and cold showers others are having :P

24 Jul 07 - DAY 2

Didn't feel so well when I woke up. Runny nose kind of killed off my mood for the day.

Beach games at Sentosa. Did I mentioned that the OG I'm in consist of only 4 guys? So when the programmers says they need couples for any games, all the guys naturally have to play.

Waited for roughly 4 -5 hours in the darkness of the beach pavilion playing games, chatting, guessing what in the world is the trick behind 'Honey-Milk' and falling asleep when some begin exchanging ghost stories. The wait was due to the fact that the Fright Night was done with pairs, which actually equals to about 100+ pairs. I got paired up with Si Jia (hope I don't get the name wrong). Both of us are in the same JC so we kind of talked about our JC CCAs while walking. I find the walking in the dark more scarier than the planted stuff.

25 Jul 07 - DAY 3

Food Trail day. Its like the Amazing Race but the destinations are already known to the OGLs. Instead of running around, the whole group are more content with strolling towards the different destinations. If I can recall, running was kept at the minimum. At each station, certain food item has to be bought and eaten up before the station task were given. I think I'm more interested in the food cause I'm like so hungry.

Initiation Night was up in the evening/night where every one guy was paired up with a girl and was made to go thru the whole course blindfolded. During the course, water/detergent powder/toothpaste/(especially) flour/eggs where dumped on the poor freshmen. As there are more girls than guys for this camp, some male seniors are roped into going the course. The male seniors are apparently not blindfolded and stayed clean through out the whole thing.

What follows was time spent in the bathroom trying to get the dreaded flour + water + eggs mixture out of the hair.

26 Jul 07 - DAY 4

Water games scheduled in the morning got cancelled because of lightning. SP Night came after that. Had dinner at Pariss International, which was by my standards pretty good.

Clubbing at DXO really suprised me. Apparently everyone in the OG danced. Furthermore they danced all through the night. I'm real tired so my time was spent watching people dance and drinking. Did anyone saw the slick moves of Lionel? Totally groovy.

27 Jul 07 - DAY 5

Heavy rain in the morning meant that the planned trip around NTU was cancelled. The OG finally got the skit sorted out in the afternoon.

Played 'No NGs in 100 Seconds' in the afternoon. I volunteered to be the son which happened to have no long lines to memorise.

Finale Night should seriously be changed to Gay Nite because almost all the skits have cross dressing guys/guys acting as girls/gays. Mai Gay got second in the Cheer Fight.

Overall a really fun camp. Like what I've said in the last post, I'm really glad that I joined a Freshman Orientation Camp. Some quotes and musings before I end this post:

- How come Galer and Aemi never met in any of the games for the first 2 days? I would really like to have a PK match against Kah Hui (he's in Aemi).

- "I'm from SMU, what the hell am I doing here?"

- Isn't this period of the year supposed to be hot and humid? It rained like almost every day. I guess its really Global Warming in action. Reduce your carbon emission now!

- "We need 4 couples from each OG."

- Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

CAC FOC 2007

I'm back! After spending like a week off television and computer, its good to actually channel surf and surf the internet.

I actually got back on last Friday but I have to get my sleep back (yes, I'm that tired). I can't believe there are actually people going back for another camp today.

The camp was fun though I hate the waiting part. Glad that I actually decided to get my ass up and join a camp as I can picture myself lazing around the house for that whole week.

Like always, more updates once I get hold of the pictures.

Sleepless at 3am

Its a pleasant 24 degrees night, which means really good sleeping conditions. Look at the time. shouldn't I be snoring in my bed now?

Maybe its the afternoon nap I took. Or the coffee I had in the evening. Perhaps its the cola I drank when I'm eating my dinner.

I guess maybe I'm excited about the orientation camp tomorrow. I'm like packed my bag halfway and planning to finish it tomorrow morning (ok make it like a few hours later).

You should see the list of things to bring especially this portion
:

- Minimum 6 sets of clothing (Dark coloured and “unwanted” clothes preferably)
- One set Clothes for clubbing
- Sports shoes
- Sandals (try not to wear slippers)

So the above actually meant 7 sets of clothes and 3 pairs of footwear! And how in the world are you going to have 6 sets of "unwanted clothes" hanging around in the house? Even though you have 6 sets of "unwanted clothes", would you even wear them to an orientation camp?

Anyway I just hoped that they will be tons of cute girls in the camp (Oh please make it true). What's the use of knowing more male friends when I'm going to be surrounded by guys in my course (Materials Engineering) for the next four years.

Guess the next update will be in a week's time. Hopefully I'll get my Hong Kong pictures from Kah Hui by then.

HK: 5 - 7 Jul 07

Some pictures taken in Hong Kong on my mobile phone (its a N73).

This is taken at Wan Chai MTR station. Pretty neat huh? The MTR is the equivalent to our MRT. I think I must had spent like 10% of my time on the MTR due to the travelling.

Look at the queue outside an Louis Vuitton Store (okay you got to zoom in). The queue reminded me of the Donut Factory queue in Singapore. We actually found out that the queue is for some limited edition of those re-usable bag (you know, those bags Cold Storage sells on Bring Your Own Bag days).

Edit: They are actually queuing for the Anya Hindmarch 'I'm Not A Plastic Bag' bag instead of a Louis Vuitton Bag. Looking back there isn't a queue for Louis Vuitton but the guy at the door refused to let us in judging from the way we are dressed in.

Oh yea, speaking of donuts, this is actually taken for those who queue up hours at those different donut stores in Singapore. :D Hong Kong has Krispy Kreme outlets and I got ONE glazed donut in like ONE MINUTE.

Here's the view of Hong Kong overlooking Victoria Habour from the Kowloon side. This is taken like minutes before the light show at 8pm so there's like tons of people in the area. Since we went like in the week of the 10th Anniversary of the Handover of Hong Kong, they actually had fireworks instead of the normal light show.

Another shot of Hong Kong from the Peak. The view is rather clear because it just rained.

The desserts in Hong Kong are to die for. They tasted tons better than those eaten in Singapore. I had Mango Sago in Mango Juice. Seems like overkill of mango huh? Note that I had this like around 12:30am. Stores closes late at 11-ish and the last MTR train is at 1am. Contrast that to Singapore where nothing much stays opened at around 10pm.

Ok that's all I have until I get all the photos from Kah Hui.

Just got back from Hong Kong. The weather is horrible over there. Will update further once I settle my stuff.
