HK: 5 - 7 Jul 07 Redux

Finally got the pictures from Kah Hui and Tien Soon. I guess I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Warning: Picture intensive post

Day 1

After a few hours on board the plane. We are finally in Hong Kong. Its my first time overseas (M'sia don't count) since my last trip to Brisbane when I'm 12. Naturally I'm really excited.

Along on the trip with me are Tien Soon, future NTU Accounting Undergrad (in white), Wenchuan, future NTU Chemical & Biological Engineering Undergrad (in navy blue) and Kah Hui, future Material Engineering Undergrad (not in picture).

This pretty little thing is my classmate from AJC. She's a native Hong Konger who's been living in Singapore and went back to Hong Kong (permanently?) for her University education. We've managed to kidnapped her and forced her to be our guide for the period we are in Hong Kong in exchange for her freedom.

While Kah Hui is busy taking photo with See Man...

everyone is busy eating! I guess no food on budget flights really made us hungry.

We did a brief walk through Ladies' Street because they sell mostly stuff that doesn't interest us much like:

ladies' bags, shoes and various tourist gifts.

Here's a clearer picture of the overnight queue for the Anya Hindmarch 'I'm Not A Plastic Bag' bag that I've mentioned in the earlier post.

After some shopping and a brief rest at the hotel...

we went to view the Light Show at Victoria Habour. Looks like I'm really pumped up for the show:

Only a few pictures are usable either due to bad lighting:

unstable hands:

or both bad lighting and unstable hands:

Apologies if you suffered from motion sickness due to the pictures above.

As its the week of the Handover of Hong Kong to the mainland, instead of a boring laser show, we got fireworks!

After dinner we proceed back to Victoria Habour to take a walk along the Avenue of Stars.

No stars on the avenue but tons of hand prints on the ground.

Jackie Chan sure used alot of strength while printing his hands, look at how deep they went:

Day 1 ended after that. We went back to our hotel and rested for the day ahead. That's me taking a look at some HK tourist travel guide while the rest are preparing for sleep. Sleep is for the weak!

Day 2

Wenchuan wanted to see the "World's Largest Outdoor Sitting Buddha" at Ngong Peng. There's this cable car which shortens the trip from the MTR station to the Buddha itself but someone had this bright idea to increase the speed at which the cable cars are travelling and caused a break down in the system. So we had to take a bus from the MTR station.

and its a very loooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnng bus ride...

Nothing much to do around here except climbing up the steps and looking at Buddhist sculptures. Did I mentioned that the bus ride is really long?

Its said that taking a ride across Victoria Habour is a must when you're in Hong Kong. From the ferry, one could have a great view of the Hong Kong skyline.

We pretty much went crazy taking photos at the Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. Seems like we are more interested in making fun of famous people rather than to take photos with them. Most of them are well made as they look rather like the person themselves. Except for this:

Note the similarities? I will say that it looks more like Jiu Kong than Jay Chow!

Had a drink at Lan Kwai Fong before heading back for sleep. Lan Kwai Fong is pretty much an equivalent of our Clarke Quay. The narrow streets made the place seems all the more crowded.

Day 3

Panda Mania!!! Ocean Park can officially be renamed as Panda Park as most of the visitors (and Tien Soon) are there for the Pandas. China gave other two more Pandas for the tenth anniversary of the Handover.

I think some of the decorations are rather strange...

There are also the usual rides you can find in theme parks and water based attractions. We didn't spend much time there because we got some last minute shopping to do.

Looking back I guess we didn't really eat much of the food there. Guess the next time I'm in Hong Kong, I'll be tasting the local food rather than shopping. Many thanks to See Man for bringing us around.
